Thank you in advance for your time (I know these announcements are
becoming frequent, and will be that way for 3 more weeks) and
consideration of the Flying Pig Marathon and the Leukemia/Lymphoma
Society and other beneficiaries.

--------------------

All:

Don Connelly, the Flying Pig Race Director, will speak to "Flying Pig
hams" at the QCEN meeting on Friday, 4/20 at 730pm. He will speak
before QCEN's business meeting, so please come down for the 730pm start.
QCEN meetings at the Red Cross Chapter at 720 Sycamore St. in downtown
Cincinnati. Map:

New this year: Iris Simpson-Bush, the Flying Pig Executive Director,
will be coming to see us.

Please feel free to ask them any questions about marathon operations, or
even the "business side" of the marathon. If you have already
volunteered or THINK YOU MIGHT, please drop by the meeting.

----------

A potential new volunteer asked me, last night..."so what do you guys
actually DO during the marathon? Someone who's new wouldn't know...."

Fair enough question. The objectives of our mission are:

- "no busy signal" communication between race officials, and between key
locations.
- transmit starting gun
- eyes/ears (like ALL spectators) for runners in trouble, course safety
hazards
- some information gathering for announcer stand as low-priority
- report in medical patients or "routine" dropouts so net control can
relay to appropriate channels that transports are needed.

This event is SIMILAR to casual walk/runs, bike tours, and triathlons in
terms of the expectations of you and value you can provide. Unlike
those events, there are NO mobile assignments except sweep bus
ride-along and lead-parade ride-along. You will operate on-foot,
generally near but not necessarily AT your vehicle.

If you'd like to see what last year's notes look like (remember, this
year is going back to the pre-2006 schedule, so add 30 minutes to most
2006 times to derive 2007 times), please go here:

There are many operational notes, listing of every assignment
(who/what/where/when), and a link to all web-published materials
courtesy of the Pig.
